Pre Meeting gab

General Meetng :: AFI Building 19:30 Hours:

Guest: Ariana Ebert, less 4 teeth.

Show and Tell:

John WrightJohn Wright - He showed a couple of simple sprayguns. They are the suction type and produce a very small pattern, but adequate for trim. One was a Miller, I didn’t catch the name of the other, but it is really old. John then showed three 1/2A planes, TWO OF WHICH HE ACTUALLY BUILT HIMSELF! The Baby Flite Streak and Combat Kitten date from around 1966, I didn’t catch when the Baby Ringmaster was built, but he recently redid the nose to take a Medallion .049. That engine sports a non-SPI, single port cylinder and a Galbreath/Nelson head. It needs a higher pitch prop and longer lines, he says..

Warren Walker – Showed some sanding tools he got in 3 sizes. Also he talked about how he likes his ARF Vector, though he didn’t have it with him. Warren said it seems to be in great trim right off the building table. That is the 3rd favorable report on the design from people in our club.

Joel Chesler – He brought Diane and she brought some cake. Yum. Thanks Diane!!

Dale Kirn – He had a book outlining the history of Cleveland Models. Ed Packard was the guy who ran it. The book is titled “Aviation’s Greatest Recruiter”.

Dave Kick – – A new kit from RSM called the Bluebird. It was Charlie Mackey’s first published design.

Dale Kirn – A notebook about the new airplane museum in his home townn Look under "people" on this web site for an Article published about it in a Salina KS paper.

Anton Kephart – He had a Morris Cavalier. It came out at 37.12537149888 ounces. Brodak 40 Power, Polyspan and Brodak Dope finish. Very nice!

Larry Renger - Showed the Hunter Stunter (AGAIN!!). The wing covering is off because the wings had become totally oil-soaked under the film covering. Not visible even through the transparent covering, but the oil went all the way out to the tips. A full can of K2R and it still is oily. Plus K2R ain’t what it used to be. It ate the Urethane finish and didn’t get the oil out as fast as I remember it doing. The final item he showed was the mostly finished “Frite Streak”. The balsa is filled with an epoxy/alcohol/cornstarch mix. 2 coats and the grain is filled and fuelproofed. Covering is Coverlite (formerly Litespan). Weight looks like it will be 5.7 ounces, .3 ounces lighter than the original prototype despite 10 sq.in. more area and longer wingspan

Old Business:

Financial report from the Joust showed a $373 profit. A round of applause for the cook, as that is always where the profit comes from. Thanks Dennis!

We got a thank-you card from Sylvia Strickland for the flowers we sent thanking her and Alice for handling registration AND tabulation. Lots ‘o work there, folks.

There was a rehash of the Fullerton Airport day needs. See the Kabal notes for most details. We will contact Ken Kaiser to see if he can bird-dog the learn-to-fly portion. John Wright will bring the “RingManster” plus scale and carrier demo models. Larry will bring some small demo models. Gray Akers will bring his whip models.

It was suggested that anyone who fails to participate and help out has to be club president next year. Moved and seconded, but I don’t recall a vote. I think the problem was a discussion of how to handle several presidents at once.

New Business:

There are a couple of further upcoming events worth noting – Sept 16 & 17 Cholla Choppers “Karl Marschinke Memorial” meet at the Tucson field. Details in Stunt News. October 21 & 22 The 27th Annual Golden State Stunt Championships in Clovis CA. Again see Stunt News for details. -- Pete's PS -- The events are in the club website. Including fliers or dirct links to the sponsoring club's web site. 80(

Eric Rule’s kits placed 4 out of the first 5 in Old Time at the Nats, and 14 of the 19 designs were ones he kits! The numbers in Classic were not quite so overwhelming, but still mind boggling. Way to go Eric!
