Dale Kirn suggested that we send letters of appreciation to the donors of goodies for our Holiday party, and also the person who gave us the field patching material. Pete's Note I have talked to the Public Relations Director of the Planes of Fame Museum, an old friend of some 25 years. He gave me the contact number of the museum general manager and some advice on setting up a C/L demo. Our President has the information and may bring this and other considerations up at our next meeting. |
The AMA ConventionAside from the KOTRC monthly meeting the big deal in January was the AMA "convention". On Saturday when I took pictures of the booth Presidente Dennis Coleman and secretary Larry Renger were there. Also manning the booth at other times were Randy Heydon, Warren Walker, John Wright, and Al Shorey. You can see some of the booth and what they had on on the web where Photos of the January meeting and the Convention are posted.
The booth was a flower in a desert of primarily Chinese RTF electric R/C aircraft. Tony Naccaratto's booth was another flower. I was told the in the talk Burt Rutan gave he asked "where are all the BUILDERS?". Clearly this meeting was majority toy industry, but there were some places of interest to the rest of us. Dale Kirn told me that in the model exhibition tables over in the corner there was a (1) control line aircraft. I was pleased to see the MECOA booth and the many repro and fixed up old model engines available both in the booths and in the "swap meet" hall. There the "swap" was in fact swapping money for things. I guess this is an AMA dodge to escape sales tax. Based on my personal nose countThe attendance was significantly more than in either 04 or 05. The admission fee was 'way up, however. $13 for AMA mambers. |
The Ex FilesOur annual Holiday Banquet has come and gone for another year. This latest iteration certainly was a memorable one. For one thing, our guest of honor, Tony Naccarato gave us a very insightful account of the early days and his family’s relationship with the great Jim Walker, Duke Fox, George Aldrich and others. It’s always nice to be able to relax and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from being able to socialize with the many friends we have gained from this sport we share. And the food was not bad, either. The AMA show is coming up shortly. I will not be attending this year, since Diane and I will be going to Australia for the first three weeks in the New Year. I will therefore be absent for the first of our meetings, as well. I want to wish you all a Happy and Safe Holiday Season. See you all next year. JOEL CHESLER We know that cyclones, tornados, wind around lows, and water circling an empty drain goes around clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. When Joel gets back will he have to change the leadouts to the right wing? |
