Meeting in the hangar for the winter months. A shot of the meeting hangar below:

The last meeting for Cliff Silva. Unfortunately he is headed for Texas.

One of the original members and creators of the KOTRC, we are sad to see him leave. I hope they have e-mail down there.

Guests: George Barlow, a retread UC flyer from the dim, distant past. Omar Suarez, who joined us as a new member at this meeting. Don Kaiser, Ken’s son. And of course Diane, Joel’s “main squeeze”, who brought Banana nut bread. Much to be encouraged among visitors.

Show and Tell:

New member Omar Suarez showed a Magician on which he has soloed! And it is intact!!! He joined the club at this meeting. Greetings and welcome Omar!

Randy Heydon passed out the latest club roster and Diane, as mentioned, passed around delicious cake! Thanks Diane!!

Joe Brownlee showed a Newton, PA contest brochure from way back. The contest was sponsored by Plymouth cars, and was several pages of events and advertisements. Modeling was big, professional stuff back then.

Our VP had his A/C.

Larry Renger - brought some old magazines that were sent to him. Also a new source of colored Silkspan – The florist at Bristol Farms. Finally, he showed a replica kit of the Jim Walker Firebaby plus an Atwood Shriek engine to go on it. The name Fire Baby, is a reference to Walker's famous "Fireball" aircraft.

Old Business:

We discussed all the final arrangements for the Fullerton Airport air-fair day. (The event went really well with a lot of kids flying, and Larry Rice handing out kits for tether planes and helping the kids build them) Ken Kaiser was the star, training probably a hundred kids. I’ll bet his back hurt the next day. Dennis Coleman, John Wright, Dave Kick, Eric Rule, and I were functioning as pit crew and crowd control. (I hope I haven’t missed anyone). Eric generated a brochure and printed a bunch of handouts.

New Business:

Bad news! Cliff Silva is moving away to Texas! Gloom! He is one of the last two surviving original members of the club ( Mike Fox is the other). We voted to make Cliff a lifetime member. The vote was enthusiastically unanimous. (Unlike political parties where they vote to make it unanimous with a 51% margin). We will miss Cliff’s steady support of the club and the events we hold. He has always pitched in to crew our contests. Thanks Cliff, and good luck with your move! Y’all come visit, hear?New business e.

EX-FILES – August 2006

Since Diane and I have just come off our Yom Kippur fast, I’m not sure I have the strength to write this. First off, I have to recommend Flyboys to all our members. The movie announcement was available at Fullerton Airport at our last meeting. John and I both give it two thumbs up. The girls also enjoyed it immensely. Next, I want to offer two (2) large and absolutely straight work tables to anyone who is willing to come over and pick it up. We decided to remove these sliding closet doors and replace them with accordion doors. Just let me know if you’re interested.

I seemed to have sprained my shoulder and may refrain from flying for a short time until it feels better, but I was asked to do the judging honors this weekend and I will gladly do that. The new Hawker Hunter kit from Eric should be a real winner. I’m looking forward to seeing RJ’s model in person soon..

See you all at the next meeting.
