KOTRC Newsletter for October 2006 -- Continued

Remember the next meet is Tuesday October, 10; coming up soon.

More Show and Tell - A really big set of things to see.

Warren Walker showing latest constructional endeavors while Rule and Kaiser pore over a handout. Warren had an update Strega stabilizer. He had put silkspan on the open framework, forgetting that it was supposed to be sheeted. So he put sheeting on over the silkspan, and will tissue it again. That has just got to be bulletproof!

Warren brought his Dubby Jett RoJett 40 done from bar stock with rear exhaust. It comes with a stinger muffler that can also be modified to be a pipe header.

Ray Ebert showed his Vector 40 ARC. He used Monokote for a finish.

John Wright – John Wright – He had his Earley Birdman model which is taken from an old American Modeler. He got it at a swap meet ( gee, what a surprise?) and has been restoring it panel by panel. It is definitely looking better than when we last saw it! The replacement covering is Polyspan, so it should last another 20 or 30 years when he is done. Early Birdman or perhaps "motor mouth"?

Dale Kirn – Dale Kirn – Showed a Space Hopper engine that he says is “The fastest reed valve engine ever”. It would be interesting to test it mano-a-mano against a real Killer Bee. The Space Hopper was only made in 1959. Which is about how long the real Killer Bee was made, too. (The current ones are decorated ARF product engines lacking all the “good stuff”) The good die young….. Anyway, Dale used a Thermal Hopper to set his National Record in speed. We should have those around for Mouse I racing.

Another John Wright project was his Scientific Golden Hawk. It has a Cub .049 that he has reworked as recommended by “Designman” (aka Larry Renger) on the Stuka Stunt forum. He says the engine really does run better!

George Barlow, our gest/new member --- He found out about us from the web. Who woulda believed it?? He showed one of the models he has had in his garage forever. It is one of the molded balsa, Top Flite P-40 models. Very sleek and looks like it should perform well.
