General Meeting :: AFI Classroom 19:30 Hours:

Before the meeting show and tell impromptu outside

Guest: Diane, soon to be Ms. Chesler

Show and Tell:

Pete Soule: Model engine book dated 1934 – 1050 Model Craftsman Design book from 1946 Photos from old FAI Team Race and Scale from The Czech and Slovak Peoples’ Republic. Book “Shoot only at the Red Airplane”, a history of target drones. DVD of Reginald Denny’s planes and factory.

Dave Kick: Book “To Conquer the Air” about early flight. Also a 1909 Wright Flyer kit that may become a CL Scale project.

Bob Werle: Blackhawk Sky King. Uses a Cox QZ .049. The pushrod is too thin, he says.

Rudy TaubeTake apart tech: Mini Funtana R/C ARF to be converted into electric C/L. Many nifty features such as take-down construction.

George Barlow: Speedy Bilt Corsair replica kit.

Dale Kirn: Six prints from 1965 slides from the Cox factory.

Antone Kephart: Baby Clown (not ARF) modified with a bladder tube in the wing to feed the engine. He plans to fly with a Medallion .049, and will likely need a pressure reducer in the fuel line. Covering is doped tissue. Minimal paint to keep it light. Also brought his Neptune II, a work in progress.

John Wright: An OS 58 rebuilt by Frank Bowman. The leaky needle bearing was replaced by a Bronze bushing. The bushing was too tight and seized. He has lapped it in to correct the situation. Also a Hemi-Head Enya. Weight 11 ounces – 6 ounces lighter than a Tigre .60. John also reported on his recovery from a disastrous encounter of the fuel in the eye kind. All is on the road to recovery.John

Larry Renger: ARF Baby Clown, Stehls .049 engine, Tech Terror 1/2A Classic legal stunter plan he designed while in college.

Stupor ringmaster

Joel Chesler: Brodak magazines now available from Covina Hobbies. He also presented Diane as his fiancé. They recently won 1st place in a dance competition.

Old Business:

Roland Baltez contest is on August 12th, Antone is the CD. Larry and Frank volunteered to judge.

Discussed moving the cage. There doesn’t seem to be much support in the club, and resistance from the speed boys who own it.

Warren Walker will obtain yet another set of signs, and we will be sure to install them with something that will resist removal.

Contest dates were discussed. First, the concept of a two weekend contest was discussed and dropped. We settled on the following dates and CD/ED assignments:

Palmer Memorial: April 26th and 27th. Rudy Taube volunteered to CD

Knight’s Joust: May 31st and June 1st. Dennis Coleman to CD. Frank Martin will ED Carrier, Joel Chesler for Scale, and Eric Rule Aerobatics.

New Business:

Discussed merging our Holiday Party with the Valley Circle Burners.

It was mentioned that the AMA now has new formal rules regarding ARF, ARC and the builder of the model concept. You can see the new definition on AMA’s website.
