From The Circular Office:

We just returned from Tucson where we experienced our first VSC and had a really great time. Congratulations to all the Knights that participated and especially to John Wright for capturing first place in Old Time (no doubt due in large part to my excellent skills as his pitman).

The banquet was awesome with a very unique video that I’m sure will be up for an Academy Award for short subjects.

We will return to business in our April meeting and have we got a lot to discuss:

  •   The Holiday Banquet must be finalized due to the need to reserve a hall.
  •   Warren will be offering club Tee-shirts, so be ready to place your orders.

If the AFI room has their media system working, I will show an episode of a 1940’s aviation adventure movie that includes a model airplane contest. The video was a gift from Diane & I think the membership will enjoy it. I want to thank everyone that attended our last meeting; even though participation was small, our Knight’s came to the rescue with John Gluth stepping up as recording secretary & Pete showing an interesting approach to determining the effective altitude, based on various atmospheric conditions. See you all at the April meeting.

Your President, JOEL

Check out the contest coverage and see the write-up on the 2008 Southwick by John Wright -- the next installment will have a VSC/KOTRC writeup.

So come to the meeting April 8!

Old Business

THE PALMER   The Palmer meet, Apr 26&27 was discussed. The sanction is registered with AMA and the WN park is reserved for the weekend. Were all set to go. CD Rudy Taube saved the club about $120 by pointing out to the AMA that the Parks & Rec, the Corp of Engineers, and the County all had insurance policies but they were for the same site. Hence one policy was issued insuring all three agencies, saving two $60 fees. Flyers have been sent out. Pilots meeting 8:00AM. First flights 8:30 to 8:45. Cage available for practice.

Profile Rules John Wright moved and Dale Kirn seconded: “Universal” rules have been adopted for Profile. Its not limited to 40 engines. The club web site has been changed to reflect the revised rules, and was done so more than 30 days before the contest. Gary Akers was given the go for a VSC style PA system, about $600. It will be funded by both the Palmer fund and the club, and will be available for all Knights contests.

T-SHIRTS     Warren Walker was given the go for new T-shirts. Base price$6.95 for 3 color heavy cotton shirt. Size 2X, add $1.25. Size 3X, add $2.00, Pockets, add $1.75. Sweatshirts and Golf shirts also available for extra $.

XMAS-HOLIDAY PARTY   Joel Chesler, John Wright and John Gluth visited Angelos to see about holding the party there. Costs would range from $28-$32 but suitable times and suitable private rooms were not available. The club decided to retain the option for the Holiday Inn, $30 for single entrée, $42 for buffet.

New Business and Report

JIM ROGERS- Retirement Plaque   Joel motioned and it was seconded (guess who) to have a plaque thanking Jim Rogers for his many years of support and service to the club and C/L flying.

PARK MAINTENANCE   It was noted that several years ago, resurfacing the asphalt was $1/sq/ft. It may be much more today. It was suggested that if the park has any unused capital funds that must be spent before fiscal year end, to consider using them on the Area A South, the C/L area.

FIELD REPORT APRIL 13   More trees have been trimmed, in both the Stunt and Racing Circle. Jim Lally and John Wright met with park personnel on Sunday to request a general trim and clean up as well as more trash barrels for the Palmer.
